ThePorex Corporation, manufacturer of porous polymers, has pioneered the use of viral filtration efficiency (VFE) testing methods and tested its own materials used in medical device design.
The Porex components were able to consistently obtain a 99.9987% VFE score, showing that its materials effectively help to protect healthcare workers and patients from aerosol-based viruses potentially present in medical settings. Porex initiated VFE testing for its materials as its customers were frequently fielding concerns from patients and healthcare workers that the components used in equipment procedures would not pose risks of a healthcare associated infection (HAI).
