Sulzer Chemtech’s agitated Kühni column (ECR) for liquid-liquid extraction is being used to increase production capacity of drugs produced by pharmaceutical manufacturer Farmhispania, to treat critically ill Covid-19 patients.
The urgent need for pharma businesses to meet the rising demands of global healthcare production during the Covid-19 crisis, gives them little time increase their manufacturing footprint. However, by working with Sulzer, Farmhispania has been able to significantly increase its production capabilities in less than two weeks.
The two partners identified Sulzer’s ECR, a high-performance advanced extraction technology, as suitable for this project, as it can effectively handle a high flow rate, maximising throughput.
To ensure a prompt delivery to Farmhispania, Sulzer used its available stock to build an ECR and ship it the day after the contract was awarded. Sulzer is also supporting the equipment installation and start-up, to speed up production.
Dr Jordi Cervelló Pagès, industrial director at Farmhispania Group, said that Sulzer’s role is crucial, as its technology and comprehensive service will enable Farmhispania to significantly expand its operations in a short time.
