Amec Foster Wheeler’s US water treatment plant upgrade includes pressure filter system

Under the US$48.4 million contract, Amec Foster Wheeler will design and construct an expansion of the currently operating Central Treatment Plant, including new reactors, a sludge thickener and pressure filter system.

Amec Foster Wheeler will also design and construct an 8000-ft slurry wall, groundwater collection system with six miles of piping, and a ten-acre sludge impoundment area. The company will also operate and maintain the facility throughout the design, construction and commissioning stages and for one year after.

The work is part of required remedial action under the US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) efforts to clean up historic contamination in the Silver Valley.
