Tea producer picks Aquantis wastewater treatment technology

Martin Bauer is investing in an environmentally compatible and energy-efficient wastewater treatment at its Vestenbergsgreuth facility. The production wastewater will be cleaned to direct discharge quality in a new treatment facility.

Aquantis, a subsidiary of Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies, will provide the technical core components of the anaerobic wastewater treatment system and the immersed ultrafiltration.

The anaerobic stage consists of a BIOBED reactor and a biogas system including gas storage and desulphurisation. The biogas produced in the pre-treatment phase will be used in a combined heat and power system or a heating boiler. This energy-rich reusable material gained from the wastewater will help to reduce operating costs and CO2 emissions.

The anaerobic pre-treatment is followed by a membrane bioreactor (MBR), combining an activated sludge process and an ultrafiltration membrane.
