Canadian company, Saltworks Technologies has announced that its AirBreather technology will be scaled up for commercial roll-out following investment from the Canadian government’s Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC).
The AirBreather treats produced water in the natural gas industry. It is a waste heat driven evaporator-crystalliser that safely reduces the cost and environmental impact of produced water disposal from shale gas extraction. The AirBreather has evolved from the company’s SaltMaker technology for a low energy, zero-liquid-discharge brine management.
The Saltworks team realised how the Saltmaker technology could be used after completing trials in shale and created the AirBreather.
The Honourable Harjit Sajjan, Minister of National Defence, said: “This investment will not only help the oil and gas industry reduce wastewater and greenhouse gas emissions, it also will reduce costs for the industry, helping to maintain jobs and create new ones.”
