Filtrex Asia takes place in Shanghai, China on 4 – 5 December and Kally Ding, senior application engineering manager at Freudenberg Filtration Technologies, will give a presentation at the event, entitled Lifetime behaviour of fine dust cabin air filters.
In the run up to Filtrex Asia, Kally Ding was recently interviewed by Marines Lagemaat, EDANA’s technical director, about new ideas and challenges in cabin air filters.
Kally Ding talked about her interest in the new focus on gaseous pollutants and odours and discussed Freundenberg’s micronAir Gas Shield. This consists of three regionally customised activated carbon combinations for combi filters that adsorb a wide range of harmful gases and unpleasant odours from the air.
In terms of challenges in this field, Kally Ding discussed the ongoing problem of finding the best balance among cabin air filter performance parameters. She noted that higher filtration efficiency, lower pressure drop and longer filter lifetime are the three most important parameters to evaluate fine dust filters. In addition, for combi filters, adsorption efficiency and capacity of various gases are also critical parameters.
Kally Ding also talked about the growing capacity of air filters and technology which can capture the finest dusts and gaseous pollutants, as well as bacteria, viruses, pollen and mould spores. She also explained how more sustainable practices at Freudenberg have affected the company’s planning, sourcing and production processes.
