Speciality chemicals company, Evonik, is celebrating 35 years since it first launched its P84 high-temperature-resistant fibres for demanding industrial applications.

Evonik will be celebrating at Techtextil which is taking place in Frankfurt this week. Jean-Marc Chassagne, the managing director of Evonik Fibres GmbH, says: “P84 is an excellent high temperature filtration polymer which is able to attract customers in new markets even 35 years after its introduction.”

Evonik’s high tech fibre for hot gas filtration has a multi-lobal cross section which ensures high levels of filtration efficiency. Because of its physical and chemical properties, P84 fibres are used in applications such as filter materials for high temperature filtration, protective clothing and sealing applications for spacecraft. It can also be used for insulating panels for thermal insulation.

The company says that in high temperature filtration processes filter materials made of P84 fibres maintain a higher permeability at constant pressure drop through the entire life cycle. This leads to lower dust emissions and energy costs.

Evonik has now developed a new generation of fibres with improved mechanical stability at permanent operating temperature and it will be marketing the new fibre soon.
