Established in 1999 to develop and distribute membrane chemicals and provide global expert process support for reverse osmosis (RO), microfiltration/ultrafiltration (MF/UF) and multimedia filtration (MMF), today San Marcos, California-headquartered Avista Technologies provides membrane treatment solutions worldwide, serving customers in over 100 countries.

Avista is known for the introduction of disruptive technologies such as a “green” chemical product line (2006), Chromatic Elemental Imaging (2013) for organic foulant identification, Avista Black Box (2014) for remote troubleshooting, Avista AdvisorCi (2015) chemical dosing with complex ion technology, the Avista Center of Excellence (2021), and the AvistaClean MF/UF product line (2023) to improve pretreatment results. The company was acquired by Kurita in 2019 with leadership transitioning from co-founder Dave Walker to Toshi Maema in 2023.

“Since I joined Avista a year ago, I’ve seen the truly impressive relationships our teams have formed, some lasting for a quarter of a century,” said Toshi Maema, CEO & president of Avista Technologies. “The company has a remarkable history, from its modest origins to its current position. Our path has been marked by challenges overcome, goals reached, and dreams fulfilled. We appreciate the partners that have supported us with their constant dedication that has propelled not only us but the industry forward, and the endless opportunities that await us.”

Through the Avista Center of Excellence’s global collaboration, the company says it will introduce new digital solutions and membrane chemicals for applications such as byproduct reuse and high recovery systems to realize Kurita’s vision for a more sustainable world.
