Lewatit Scopeblue ion exchange resins -

Lanxess is a leading global manufacturer of products for water treatment and liquid purification. For decades, its ion exchange resins and adsorbers have proven their reliability in groundwater remediation, wastewater treatment, and drinking water detoxification. At IFAT in Munich, the company will be presenting its comprehensive product portfolio for current challenges in water treatment, such as the removal of per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS).

Another topic of focus at IFAT is battery recycling. Lanxess’s products also make an important contribution in this field. The growing demand for high-purity battery metals such as lithium, nickel, cobalt, and copper requires access to new sources. The most economical and environmentally friendly approach, according to Lanxess, is the recycling of end-of-life batteries. Lewatit ion exchange resins are crucial for many process steps in the hydrometallurgical recycling flow sheets.

Lanxess products not only enable the green transformation of societies. The corporation also wants to become climate-neutral by 2040 in an ambitious and forward-looking manner by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and introducing process and technology innovations. For this reason, Lanxess has launched Scopeblue as the corporate sustainability umbrella brand.

At IFAT, the company will be exhibiting its first acrylic and styrene-based Lewatit Scopeblue resins. Compared with their conventional counter types, these resins exhibit a CO2 reduction of more than 60% and consist of more than 90% sustainable raw materials, based on a mass balanced approach.

KERAFOL

Hall A1, Stand 447

Stack of ceramic membrane discs for DCFF -

Kerafol Keramische Folien GmbH & Co KG manufactures ceramic flat sheet membranes in various geometries and pore sizes for micro- and ultrafiltration as well as for the aeration of liquids.

The company’s ceramic filter discs for microfiltration and ultrafiltration are available with pore sizes from 2.0 μm to 5 nm. They are applied in Dynamic Cross Flow Filtration (DCFF) for solid-liquid separation. During filtration, the discs rotate on a hollow shaft to create the cross-flow effect. The filtrate is discharged from the system via the hollow shaft. This technique has several advantages over conventional cross flow filtration. The combination of ceramic (the best of all available membrane materials) and DCFF (the most effective filtration process) offers maximum filtration performance with low energy input. The discs and DCFF are used for a wide range of applications including waste and process water treatment, digestate treatment, chemical and pharmaceutical, food and beverage, oil and gas etc.

Kerafol also offers ceramic membrane discs for flotation. The discs are pressurized from the inside via a channel structure. The gas permeates through the porous material and bubbles emerge at the surface of the discs. Very small and extremely fine distributed bubbles can be generated by an additional rotation (Rotating Membrane Flotation (RMF)). The discs can also be used for the injection of other gases.

At IFAT Munich 2024, there will be a live demonstration of both techniques at the Kerafol stand, with pilot plants operating for DCFF and RMF.

CARBOTECH

Hall B2, Stand 127/226

Water treatment using activated carbon -

As a globally active full-service provider in the field of activated carbon, the CarboTech Group will of course be represented at this year’s IFAT in Munich.

The purification of water and wastewater has become a very complex challenge for water plants due to contamination with PFAS and the increased use of pharmaceuticals and other combinations of pollutants from agriculture and industry.

In order to cope with these problems, a fourth purification stage is the only economical solution for many sewage treatment plants. The activated carbon filter medium from CarboTech offers the best purification performance with a long service life.

Another advantage is that CarboTech reactivates the activated carbon at its Essen site, making a positive contribution to sustainability and protecting the environment. By reusing the activated carbon several times, CarboTech returns the sustainable filter medium to the circular economy after processing without any loss of quality or service life.

CarboTech’s decades of experience as a solution provider and extensive production facilities allow the company to tailor its products to the individual requirements of customers’ problems.

By adding a 360° service to its product portfolio, CarboTech offers more than just activated carbon.

Find out what CarboTech can do in a personal meeting with the sales team at IFAT Munich at the joint DWA stand. CarboTech looks forward to exchanging ideas.

Bio-Blok is self-cleaning and does not need flushing, so plant operational and maintenance costs are much lower, with a longer uptime.

HAVER & BOECKER

Hall A2, Stand 112

The high performance of the new RPD Hiflo-S filter cloth’s 3-dimensional weaving structure can be calibrated at a pore size of 5 to 40 μm - Image © Haver & Boecker.

In addition to its Minimesh S filter cloth, Haver & Boecker has developed a high performance filter cloth that is fundamentally different from all previous woven metal media. Its 3-dimensional weave technology offers properties that make industrial filtration processes quicker, safer and more efficient. The open surface over an area is significantly increased due to the weaving structure. The medium’s flow-through rate can be doubled when compared to conventional filter cloth having the same pore size.

The pore size can be calculated beforehand. With these precision pores it is possible to attain a higher separation effect and shape stability. The pore size within a batch can be calibrated as desired from 5 μm to 40 μm.

The depth structure of RPD Hiflo-S offers a high separation effect without rapid blinding. Dirt holding capacity and cleaning capability have proven to be excellent, Haver & Boecker notes.

RPD Hiflo-S can be manufactured from standard diameter wires. This has a positive effect on cost. Moreover, it is now possible to weave special materials such as Avesta, Hastelloy, Inconel or titanium in the small pore size range, which previously had not been doable. So, RPD Hiflo-S offers a corrosion and temperature resistant filter cloth with pore sizes below 40 μm.
