Spectrum Laboratories introduces system for R&D scale microfiltration and ultrafiltration processing

The pump and pressure monitor functions of Spectrum LaboratoriesKrosFlo Research lli TFF System are controlled by the same PLC/HMI. While the pump head handles the same flow rates as the previous version, from 0.01 ml/min to 2.3 LPM, the unit now has a smaller footprint on the bench.

The Digital Pressure Monitor has a digital LCD display with LED backlight. Four pressure measurements are displayed including: feed, retentate, permeate and transmembrane pressure. The system has both audible and visual low and high pressure alarms for the inlet and permeate, and a high-pressure pump shutoff that helps maintain membrane integrity and achieve high product recovery.

The KFComm Data Collection Software included with the system included with the system interfaces with a computer to download real time process data to an Excel file. The information captured includes pressures and flow rates. The software also calculates and trends transmembrane pressure, filtration flux, shear, volumetric throughput and the concentration factor.

When operated with single-use filters and flow paths the system can concentrate and diafilter process solutions while avoiding cross contamination. The automatic backpressure valve accessory can be used to maintain process pressures without fluid contact.

When used with Spectrum’s hollow fibre filters, the KrosFlo Research lli TFF System provides faster and gentler separation of proteins, cells, viruses, nanoparticles and other macromolecules.
