Water engineering award for Black & Veatch

The plant provides WaterOne, which provides water to the region, with an additional water supply for its growing customer base.

Black & Veatch and WaterOne will accept the award at the ACEC of Kansas’ Annual Meeting in June 2011.

The Wolcott supply and treatment facilities have already received a County public improvement award in 2010 in recognition of the plants community benefits.

“Black & Veatch has designed a water treatment plant that is not only functional and innovative, but also fits into the rural nature of its surroundings,” said Tom Schrempp, WaterOne director of production.

WaterOne and Black & Veatch worked closely to develop the new water treatment plant in a manner that would be welcomed by area residents. The operations building is styled to look like a horse barn and native grasses have been planted in the unused portion of the site.

The water treatment plant uses microfiltration membrane technology as part of the treatment process. The facility also uses energy-efficient equipment and advanced controls to reduce overall operations costs and the plant’s carbon footprint.
