Neptune-Benson LLC, the Rhode Island, USA-based manufacturer of commercial aquatic filtration systems, is celebrating the installation of its Defender Regenerative Media Filter in the newly renovated Canowindra Pool Complex in New South Wales, Australia.
The complex has reported that it has closed following Australia's summer with a 48% increase in swimmers and 'success' with its new filtration system.
Annual water savings of more than one million litres (approx 255,000 gallons), and energy savings on the VFD pumps will save in excess of 60% on the overall annual power bills, it is claimed.
The Neptune Benson Defender Regenerative Filtration System was chosen for its superior water quality output as well as sustainability. Before installation of the filters the old system was backwashed weekly using around 40,000 liters (approx 10,500 gallons) of water.
By using the Defender Filtration system there is 90% less water usage. In addition to the tremendous water savings, the Defender removes particles down to 1 micron or less resulting in clean, clear water.
Reduced chlorine

Traditionally, prior to the upgrade, we had high chemical residuals due to super chlorination requirements.” The Canowindra Pool Complex celebrated its 60 year anniversary with a grand re-opening and renovation project of the complex. The project converted the 33 meter pool into a 25 meter lap pool, added a children’s program pool with a beach style entry and water features, computerized timing equipment, solar heating and a state of the art pump and filtration technology for the pools.
Michael Hoy, business development manager of Beau Corp Aquatics recommended the Neptune Benson Defender because it would have an annual water savings of over one million litres. The energy savings on the VFD pumps will save in excess of 60% on the overall annual power bills.
