IWA Nairobi delegates get reassurance on security

Organisers of the Third International Water Association Development Congress and Exhibition, which will take place in Nairobi, Kenya on 14-17 October, have issued a statement reassuring visitors about the security situation in the city following last month's terrorist attack.

''Regarding the recent tragic events in Nairobi, we continue to monitor the situation and are working closely with the local authorities to ensure that enhanced measures are put in place regarding the Congress,'' a spokesman said.

''We wish to assure delegates that your safety and security is of utmost importance to us. We focus on ensuring a smooth and safe Congress.''

The event will welcome over 600 delegates for several days of networking, learning and business development. 

The congress will include a technical programme with 66 sessions, 200 presentations and over 50 posters including the latest in applied research and practice in low and middle income countries; this is complimented by an exhibition of over 60 companies showcasing their products, services and programmes.

Guest of honour at the event will be Professor Judi Wakhungu, Kenyan cabinet secretary, Ministry of Environment, Water & Natural Resources.

The IWA's Development Congress and Exhibition will also feature the following keynote speakers each day, 15-17 October: Neil Macleod (e-Thekwini Municipality, South Africa Panel), Patrick Quarcoo (Radio Africa Group Panel), and Dinesh Mehta (CEPT University, India).
