GKD-CompactFiltration exhibiting the Maxflow filter system at parts2clean 2010

Maxflow, from GKD-CompactFiltration, is designed specifically for a particular process and can be individually adjusted to the material being processed via its integrated control system. The Maxflow compact filter system is equipped with the YMAX multi-layered stainless steel composite mesh.

GKD identifies the optimum filtration properties of the metal mesh by using GeoDict simulation software which was developed in cooperation with the4 Franhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics. Firstly, complex mathematical algorithms calculate and visualise the mesh parameters. In a second phase, the weave, wire diameters of warp and weft, pitch, crank factor, rigidity and ovality of the metal wires are specially modified using CFD simulation, to tune the mesh structure to the customer’s precise requirements. The visualisation of the simulation results makes the interactions of mesh geometry, flow and filtration properties visible and clear. The mesh is then produced in the GKD weaving mill and made into filter discs which are arranged vertically in the filter head. The feed material cross-flows around the static filter discs.

A filter size of between 2-20 m² is possible for the effective filtration of emulsions, oils or waters. Particle separation up to the micro-filtration range can be achieved. Automated backwashing detaches the filter cake from the discs and the integrated pressing unit turns it into non-drip, type-specific briquets.

The standard design of a Maxflow filter consists of a filter unit with either six (Maxflow 503) or twelve (Maxflow 504) filter discs and a 1,000 litre tank. This can be increased to 2,500 litres as required. A dirt tank integrated into the clean tank effectively prevents deposits from accumulating due to the tapered outlet in the tank floor. If needed, a separate cooling pipe system can be installed in the clean tank to keep the cooling lubricants at an even temperature. Linear circulation in the clean tank helps to ensure even cooling of the filtrate.
