The Xylem Value of Water Index reveals 96 percent of those surveyed highlighted issues including pollution, industrial discharge and overconsumption.
Almost all believe it is important for urgent action to be taken and 75 % are willing to pay to help upgrade the water system, while more than 94 % say they are willing to change their attitudes to water use.
“We’ve learned that there is a broad understanding of the pressing need to address water challenges in China and most people are willing to play a role to help achieve this. Xylem hopes to support the government’s efforts as we continue to identify and develop solutions together,” said Shuping Lu, president of Xylem China.
“We hope this research encourages Chinese society to take action to protect water and promote China’s environmental dream,” added Weizhao Dai, executive president of E20 Institute which took part in the research.
The report, released by global water technology firm Xylem at the China Water Expo in Beijing, surveyed 2,360 people in urban areas along with 159 water industry experts.
