Freudenberg Filtration Technologies is expanding the range of services of its digital simulation software, the Freudenberg Filter Efficiency Tool, or e.FFECT to increase the functional reliability and efficiency of turbomachinery.

The main factors that cause performance losses in gas turbines and compressors are fouling due to dust and moisture in the intake air and a pressure drop of the particle-laden filters. However, by using the interaction of these two parameters, e.FFECT can calculate the optimum value for the lowest performance loss, known as the ‘golden mean’.

The e.FFECT tool maps the actual operation of a plant onto a digital model. Based on the site-specific requirements and relevant variables, it compares the filtration systems in question and determines the best solution. e.FFECT calculates the individual filtration efficiency of each filter stage and accumulates the quantities of dust.

The composition of the local ambient air is important to the filtration system and e.FFECT analyses the supply air at a specific location by either using the measurements of national environmental authorities or Freudenberg determines the particulate concentrations in the immediate vicinity of the site.
