Biorefining centre opened in Wales

The £20 million BEACON Biorefining project, backed with £10.6million from the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh government, is the first of its kind in Wales and has been developed in collaboration with partners in the Universities of Bangor and Swansea.

The BEACON Centre will cover biorefining technologies and expertise and will house pilot scale equipment designed and built by Axium Process. These include its integrated wet feedstock processing line, pasteuriser and membrane filtration pilot plants which use ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis technologies for processes including fractionation, concentration, clarification and water conservation.

Axium Process also works with a number of universities in the concentration and separation of liquid streams. The company has a range of mobile pilot plants for companies wishing to develop or improve their filtration processes utilising microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration and reverse osmosis.
