World demand for nonwoven fabrics to climb 6.9%

The growth in nonwoven fabrics is expected to increase to a total weight of eight million metric tonnes. The average weight of nonwoven fabrics is decreasing, and so while the weight of the nonwovens produced will drop, the increase is shown in the area of the fabric produced.

China will account for 38% of all additional demand during this timeframe, and is expected to take the US's position as the largest nonwoven fabric market in the world. While lower volume markets for nonwovens, advances are also expected to be seen in Turkey, Russia and Brazil. Demand for nonwoven fabrics in parts of the Asia/Pacific region, Eastern Europe and Latin American will outstrip demand in the more traditional nonwoven markets of the US, Japan and Western Europe.

While the personal hygiene market for nonwovens will continue to account for the greatest share, medical and pharmceutical uses will have the most rapid market increase in this time period.
