Asahi Kasei to build new spinning plant for Planova BioEX filters

This will increase capacity for Planova BioEX filters to 10 000 m2 per year.

Planova virus removal filters are used in the production of biotherapeutic products such as biopharmaceuticals and plasma derivatives.

Launched in 2009, Planova BioEX filters incorporate durable hydrophilic PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) hollow-fibre membranes that can cope with the harsh processing conditions in biopharmaceutical manufacturing.

The new spinning plant will enable Asahi Kasei Medical to meet growing demand for Planova BioEX filters as higher protein concentrations become more common in the manufacturing process of biotherapeutic products.

The plant is scheduled to be completed in August 2016.
