Flanders signs US$15.5mn filtration purchase agreement

“Winning the Containment Filtration System award solidifies Flanders as the industry’s leading supplier of Nuclear Glove boxes and Containment Filtration Equipment,” said Tom Morse, VP of High Purity Operations at Flanders. “We are excited to be a part of these groundbreaking advances.”

“This process has taken more than a year to finalize,” said Gary Chrismon, Flanders’ director of Glove Box Sales. “The MOX Team worked very hard to secure this order and has performed at an exceptional level. Through the total company commitment to the MOX project, this order and the additional glove box orders previously announced emphasize Flanders’ proven ability as the leading supplier to Shaw Areva MOX services and the entire industry.”

The Flanders project is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2009 and will take about one year from design through to delivery.

In 1999, the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) signed a contract with a consortium, now called Shaw AREVA MOX Services LLC to design, build, and operate a Mixed Oxide (MOX) Fuel Fabrication Facility. This facility will be a major component in the United States' program to dispose of surplus weapon-grade plutonium. The 600 000 sq ft facility will take surplus weapon-grade plutonium, remove impurities, and mix it with uranium oxide to form MOX fuel pellets for reactor fuel assemblies.
