HPD Systems wins mining contract

HPD Systems is a specialist in evaporation and crystallisation technology and has been awarded the contract as part of the first phase of development for the initial 1.2 million metric tons per year (mtpy) production of potassium chloride expected to begin in 2015. This project, which takes place in the Carnalita potash project in the state of Sergipe, will be the largest potash extraction facility in Brazil.

The evaporation and crystallisation equipment to be supplied by HPD will be used to purify natural deposits from solution mining operations of carnalite to produce potassium chloride, which will then be sold as chemical fertilizer in the Brazilian market. The major process equipment is comprised of a multiple-effect evaporation system followed by a multiple-stage crystallisation system. The equipment will also provide condensate for reuse in solution mining operations.

The scope of this first phase of development will include both basic and detailed engineering for the various portions of the evaporation plant towards a full project release. HPD will also conduct pilot-testing at its research and development centre in the United States.
