Unilever to acquire Blueair

Founded in 1996 in Stockholm, Blueair manufactures air purifying technologies and products for consumers and businesses and had a turnover of US$106 million in 2015.

Available in over 62 markets worldwide, Blueair air purifiers are designed to remove airborne allergens, asthma triggers, viruses, bacteria and other pollutants in home, work and leisure environments.

Unilever says that the acquisition will further complement its existing water purification business.

Nitin Paranjpe, president of Unilever’s Home Care business, said: “We are delighted to be adding Blueair to our Home Care portfolio. The Blueair brand and products are widely known and represent exceptional quality and design, as well as superior capacity and performance.”

Blueair founder Bengt Rittri said Unilever would help Blueair to take the next step to become a truly global provider of its air purifiers.

“Moving forward, Blueair will be geared to help potentially billions of people rather than millions to create safer, healthier indoor environments as air pollution rises worldwide,” said Rittri.

Blueair will continue to operate under its existing brand name in all of its markets, including Sweden, China, USA, Japan, South Korea and India.
