Kruger, the Veolia Water Solutions and Technologies company, has successfully completed an Anita Mox pilot study in Colorado.
The Anita Mox process combines aerobic nitritation and anammox reactions simultaneously in different layers of a biofilm, which resides on MBBR carriers. The MBBR platform provides a robust, stable process with simple flow-through operation with no need for solids management.
Kruger conducted the study over a six-month period, consistently demonstrating ammonia removals of 80% to 85% and total inorganic nitrogen removals of 75% to 80% without external carbon addition.
These specific benefits translate into a smaller footprint, lower operating costs, and an overall more efficient plant.
