At the 2017 International Water Association (IWA) Conference on Water Reclamation and Reuse beginning this weekend in Long Beach, California, a unique beverage will be served to attendees at Padre Dam Municipal Water district’s dedicated ‘Brew Reception’. The Ballast Point Brewing Company have crafted a beer using water from the East County Advanced Water Purification Facility to celebrate the facility’s water reuse success story. The Advanced Water Purification Facility treats secondary effluent from a wastewater treatment plant in the District and was constructed for demonstration and testing purposes to explore a new source of water for Santee. The facility uses a four-step purification process of free chlorine disinfection, membrane filtration, reverse osmosis and advanced oxidation. Biwater provided a complete turnkey design, and supplied and commissioned all process, mechanical, electrical and control components for the facility, which began operations in 2015.
