Scaled-down lab MBR from Microdyn-Nadir

The Bio-cel module.
The Bio-cel module.

Microdyn-Nadir will present the new module at the WEFTEC in Los Angeles, USA, which takes place from 15-19 October 2011.The Bio-Cel membrane module features a membrane-based bio-mass separation process that requires a smaller footprint than secondary clarifiers. This allows for a wide range of MBR-related processes and process variants to be investigated on a laboratory scale. The possibilities of using membrane technology for trace substance elimination, biological purification of substances such as medicines and industrial chemicals, and the optimization of the biological process in MBR are being investigated on a broad front. These and more detailed analyses (e.g. MBR as a preliminary to a down-stream treatment stage) can be carried out by a smaller laboratory MBR module.Bio-Cel also features an ultrafiltration membrane that improves the purification rate and offers a solid-free discharge. The PES ultrafiltration membrane (type UP150) is the same as that used in the company’s full scale Bio-Cel module. The Bio-Cel Lab has a membrane surface area of 0.35 m2 installed in a PVC frame with integrated crossflow aeration via a membrane diffuser. The module can be installed and ready for use in a laboratory and connections for permeate drainage and air supply are provided.
