Amiad filters selected for Indian desalination plant

The SpinKlin Disc Filters will help convert seawater to potable water.

Construction of the project is being overseen and coordinated by Mecon Ltd, a government-owned company, for Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewage Board in Chennai, India.

The SpinKlin Disc Filters technology was developed by Arkal Filtration Systems, a company acquired by Amiad in 2010.

“We are confident that Arkal’s Disc Filters will provide us with the greatest combination of quality and reliability,” said Rajiv Mittal, managing director of VA Tech Wabag.

“The newly acquired Arkal disc filtration technology is a strategic addition to our existing product portfolio, and its selection by Mecon reaffirms the benefits and value it offers for municipal and industrial applications,” said Arik Dayan, CEO of Amiad.

The Chennai plant is one of the largest desalination plants in Asia. Construction on the plant began in February 2010. The Arkal disc filters are expected to be installed later this year.
