The ROAMfilter Plus has an intuitive bicycle pump design and uses an industrial grade ultrafiltration membrane which immediately provides high quality drinking water. It can be driven by a gravity-fed water supply or pipeline to provide safe drinking water on demand. The company says the filter removes 99.9999% of bacteria and 99.99% of viruses and has a durable inside-out hollow fibre membrane.
The filter can be mobilised swiftly into hard-to-reach locations as it can be easily transported over any terrain. In addition, it is not dependent on electricity and works at a significant speed of 200 litres filtered every hour.
Since 2014, Wateroam has provided daily clean water access to more than 150,000 people across 38 countries, including Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, Nepal, and Malaysia, with plans to expand its reach to one million people over a period of five years through the Prize win alone.
As Water Category winners, Wateroam received a prize of US$600,000. The Zayed Sustainability Prize recognises small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), non-profit organisations (NPOs), and global high schools for their sustainability solutions.
