United States-based Severn Trent Services donated three Capital Controls Series 480 all-vacuum gas feeders and ejectors to the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) following Hurricane Gonzalo last October.
The storm caused up to $18m of damage to housing on Antigua, created an island-wide power outage and damaged the APUA water treatment plant’s disinfection system.
The gas feed equipment, which disinfects drinking water, is being used by the APUA to chlorinate the island’s drinking water supply.
“Maintaining a consistent supply of potable water to our consumers was a challenge following the hurricane and the donated chlorinators enabled us to ensure this was possible,” said Ivan Rodrigues, water manager for the authority.
“We were happy to help the island get back on its feet with equipment that made their water safe to drink,” added William Stimeling, senior product manager, disinfection for Severn Trent Services.
