Aquatech awarded seawater desalination contract for Abu Qir thermal power plant

The seawater desalination facility at Abu Qir thermal power plant will incorporate Aquatech’s MED technology and Thermal Vapor Compression (MED-TVC) units. Each MED-TVC unit has a capacity of 5,000 cubic meters per day (net) and will supply 10,000 cubic meters of fresh water a day to the power plant's boilers.

The Abu Qir plant will use Mediterranean sea water to produce pure water with less than 5 mg/l total dissolved solids and plant steam to provide the energy to operate the desalination units. The plant is designed for a performance Gain Output Ratio (GOR) of 8.5 minimum.

The High Efficiency Reverse Osmosis (HERO) process will be used for its ability to withstand various impurities such as oil, grease and organic constituents. The system will have a capacity of 8,500 m3/day and recover over 90% of the water suitable for use within the thermal power plant.
