The new advanced Valmet marine water treatment technology for its marine scrubber system and exhaust gas recirculation system meets the International Maritime Organization (IMO) guidelines for the marine industry.

Part of Valmet’s continuous development of marine solutions towards more sustainable ship transport, the Valmet marine water treatment system consists of four different modules that can fit different vessel layouts. Due to the layout flexibility, the water treatment system can be installed both in new vessels and retrofits.

The water treatment unit does not use any chemicals to treat the effluent and the daily cleaning of the unit is done with plain sea water. For weekly cleaning, freshwater and a small chemical dose is needed. Its low chemical and freshwater consumption and minimal maintenance save both costs and the environment.

The Valmet marine water treatment unit has been designed to handle high total solids’ contents without the risk of clogging membranes. The bleed off water from closed loop circulation is concentrated, and when approximately 10–15% total solids content is reached, the concentrated sludge is pumped into the sludge tank.
