Hollingsworth & Vose secures follow-on R&D grant from Virginia Tobacco Commission

Phase I of the grant was received in 2011 when the Virginia Tobacco Commission awarded Hollingsworth & Vose’s Floyd facility US$750 000 to work on next-generation filtration media.

During Phase 1, Floyd scientists pursued research to evaluate new technology platforms by creating laboratory prototypes and testing ideas and technologies internally.

Phase II funding will now focus on moving specific areas and products from prototype to commercialization.

Vince Hatcher, H&V’s Floyd site manager, said: “H&V has been operating in Floyd for over 40 years. We are fortunate to have a lot of talented people and excellent support from Floyd County and the State of Virginia. This grant will help us commercialize advanced filtration media products and continue to grow in key markets.”

The Virginia Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission was created in 1999 by the VA General Assembly. Its mission is the promotion of economic growth and development of Virginia’s tobacco-growing region using proceeds of the national tobacco settlement.
