Four companies have been shortlisted for the FILTREX Innovation Award and the winner will be announced at Filtrex 2019 which will take place on 14-15 May in Berlin.

The award recognises the work of nonwoven-based filtration producers, acknowledging their continuous research and development in their search for new solutions and their sustained high standards. Each nominee will present their entry at FILTREX on Tuesday 14 May.

Extia 1000 by Ahlstrom- Munksjö is among the list of nominees. Extia is a 100% synthetic, durable, pulse cleaner filter media which removes coarse particulates at a lower level of drop. Also nominated is the micronAir Gas Shield by Freundenberg, an activated carbon selection for automotive cabin air filters, protecting passengers from harmful gases.

The other two nominees are the FiberFind-AI module of GeoDict software by Math2Market and Welstrat by Welspun. FiberFind uses modelled nonwoven microstructures to train a neural network to label binder with artificial 3-D scans. After training, the neural network also recognises the binder in 3-D scans of real nonwovens. Finally, Welstrat is a singed and calendared speciality needlefelt, suitable for mid temperature ranges from 140° to 180°C and designed for industrial filtration.
