IDA launches desalination academy

The mission of the IDA Desalination Academy is to provide the highest level of training, education and instruction to individuals, utilities, companies, institutions, universities and other organisations interested in desalination.

The Academy will be formally launched in Singapore in conjunction with Singapore International Water Week, which takes place from 1-5 July, 2012. Additional programmes are also being planned, with one session scheduled to coincide with the Saudi Water & Power Forum taking place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia from 2-4 December. Course descriptions for the programme in Singapore will be announced shortly.

“The IDA Desalination Academy will be the premier coordinating school for specialised training in desalination and a higher school for special study in this field. It will be a school without geographic boundaries – a global learning establishment for the advancement of desalination knowledge. It is distinguished from other programmes by a variety of factors including its global reach, roster of master Instructors, comprehensive curriculum, and plans for Certification and Accreditation,” said Corrado Sommariva, President of IDA.

“Our vision is that the Academy will be the world’s foremost source for professional training and continuing education on desalination and water reuse. A major undertaking, it addresses a great need in the global desalination community and has the full support of our leadership,” added Patricia A Burke, IDA’s Secretary General.

The courses will explore desalination technologies and processes, desalination economics, sustainability and green desalination strategies, and future, innovative and developing technologies. The Academy will also offer a more basic course for water industry professionals or other interested parties who wish to gain a better understanding about desalination.
