IDE Water Technologies has selected DuPont’s FilmTec membranes to provide the seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) filtration for the Sorek B desalination plant in Israel.
The 25-year, 200 million m3/year facility will be the largest desalination plant in Israel and one of the largest in the world when it comes online in 2023.
DuPont is providing SWRO membrane elements to the project site, including dry SWRO elements. As dry membranes do not require preservation solution, DuPont says they enable longer storage times, lower labour costs, and easier, long-term warehouse planning. The dry membranes also use less water and chemicals in production and significantly reduce the carbon footprint of shipping.
