New ultrafiltration module offers larger active area

The new DOW™ Ultrafiltration SFP-2880 offers 50% more membrane active area while decreasing the required system footprint by 30%. Dow Water & Process Solutions says that the SFP-2880 adds 51 cm (20 inches) of length when compared to the DOW™ Ultrafiltration SFP-2860, but still features the high strength PVDF hollow fibres with a nominal pore size of 0.03µm. Dow’s SFP-2880 also allows flexibility in system design by reducing the number of modules, required piping, skid infrastructure, and the size of the compressed air and clean in place systems. In addition, the larger modules produce a smaller waste stream for disposal.

According to Dow Water & Process Solutions, the new ultrafiltration module is made from high strength, hollow fibre membranes with good features and benefits. These include a 0.03µm nominal pore diameter for removal of bacteria, viruses, and particulates including colloids to protect downstream processes, such as reverse osmosis. In addition, PVDF polymeric hollow fibres for high strength and chemical resistance allow long membrane life, and the hydrophilic fibres offer easy cleaning and wetability that help maintain long term performance. Dow adds that outside-in flow configuration offers high tolerance to feed solids that helps reduce the need for pretreatment processes, and the U-PVC housing helps eliminate the need for costly pressure vessels

Created for larger system designs, the DOW Ultrafiltration SFP-2880 is claimed to be ideal for a variety of treatment applications such as groundwater, surface water, seawater, industrial wastewaters, and tertiary treatment.
