Xylem's Leopold technology selected for Hong Kong water treatment project

The project is designed to double the capacity of the treatment works from 400 million litres per day to 800 million litres per day.

Xylem will provide its Leopold Clari-DAF dissolved air flotation system and Leopold Type S underdrain solutions for the expansion.

The Leopold Clari-DAF system creates millions of microbubbles to float solid particles to the surface of the water where they are removed by mechanical skimming or hydraulic de-sludging. The Leopold Type S underdrain features closely spaced, non-clogging orifices for uniform distribution of wash water and air to promote trouble free operation and to clean the filter without media upset, reducing maintenance costs and downtime.

Xylem is working with ATAL Engineering Ltd in Hong Kong to deliver the technologies for Tai Po Water Treatment Works.

Barry Lee, associate director of ATAL Engineering Ltd, said: “Xylem’s Leopold systems were chosen because of their proven efficiency, reliability and reduced life cycle costs, as well as Xylem’s local presence and commitment to delivering tailored aftermarket service for customers.”

Allan Hendry, Xylem’s regional director, Greater Asia, said: “Winning this prestigious contract, which is one of the largest orders for our Leopold products received to date, is recognition of Xylem’s commitment to working with our customers to solve their water challenges. We look forward to delivering our solutions and to beginning work on phase two of the project, which is likely to begin this year.”
