Katadyn, a manufacturer of portable water treatment systems, is partnering with relief organizations to supply water treatment technologies to treat contaminated drinking water in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria's impact in September.

The Katadyn Group, headquatered in Switzerland, manufactures portable water filters, desalinators and chemical disinfectants for outdoor and marine applications. Its products are also used by aid organizations and the military.

Most of Puerto Rico's 3.4 million residents were left without power and safe drinking water when the Category 5 hurricane hit the island. Katadyn products are being delivered to families, schools, churches and individuals across affected areas. Truckloads of Katadyn Drip Ceradyn Filters, 39,000-gallon filtration capacity gravity water filters sufficient for groups, were recently shipped to the island via partner organizations.

In addition, Katadyn Micropur MP1 purification tablets are being used to filter water contaminated by sewage, and the Katadyn Hiker Pro MicroFilter and BeFree Water Bottle Filtration Systems have been used for filtering water from lakes, rivers and streams in Puerto Rico. The company's Spectra Watermakers solar powered desalination systems in small portable cases have also been deployed to treat brackish and salt water. These units do not need for gasoline or power.
