The next in Ken Sutherland's series of articles, on the smaller end-use equipment application sectors, features the use of filtration equipment in the manufacture of machinery, including the production of transport equipment as well as equipment usage in the operation of transport systems. The sector is not actually small in volume terms, but is considered in this series of articles because of its use of only a relatively narrow range of equipment types.

Ahlstrom looks to close filtration paper machine in Barcelona

09 November 2009

Ahlstrom Corp has started negotiations on the possible closure of a paper machine for filtration materials at its manufacturing plant in Barcelona, Spain, due to the global overcapacity in some filtration materials.

The negotiations with personnel representatives concern all employees of the plant excluding the sales office. The plant employs 92 people, including 10 who work in the sales office. The possible adjustments could cut approximately 45 positions impacting both blue-collar and white-collar employees.

The Barcelona plant produces filtration media for transportation and liquid applications. Ahlstrom’s Turin, Italy plant is the main manufacturing site of filtration materials for Ahlstrom's customers in Europe, Middle East and Africa. Ahlstrom also manufactures filtration media in North and South America as well as in Asia.
