Innovative Low Pressure Plasma Coatings for Gas and Liquid Filter Media

Innovative plasma processes allow the deposition of coatings with high levels of hydrophobicity and/or oleophobicity for use in gas filtration, or coatings with permanent hydrophilic effect for liquid filter media and battery separators.

The use of low pressure plasma for surface modification of filter media becomes more widespread because it is a dry and clean technology. Filter media producers adopt plasma coating to improve the quality of their products. At the same time it helps these companies to save costs because of a lower consumption of energy and chemicals.

MBRs Don’t Have to Break the Bank

Membrane Bioreactors (MBRs) may have a reputation for being costly, but they don’t have to be.
A survey of 137 MBRs on the US mainland shows that an MBR using flat plate technology is typically half to three-quarters the capital expenditure (CAPEX) of hollow fiber systems. There is some data that suggests MBR Systems are competitive with several other technologies, including oxidation ditches, SBRs, MBBRs, and BNR plants. There is insufficient data to say definitively that a flat plate system costs less, but the data suggests that it can be cost effective versus conventional systems treating to the same quality effluent.

Low Energy MBR Solutions

The City of Santa Paula, Calif. is home to the first large membrane bioreactor (MBR) installation in North America to use PURON™ membrane filtration modules. It is also the first water recycling facility built under a California government code to encourage private investment to solve public infrastructure needs Santa Paula’s outdated wastewater facility was in violation of several discharge requirements issued by the Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board, and had received more than 3,000 violations and $8 million in fines.
