More safety in the use of compressed air in the food and beverage industry

The Ultra-Filter compressed air filter series.

The Ultra-Filter DF series of compressed air filters for volume flow rates from 35 to 1,100 m³/h, was tested for indirect food contact, and under the testing conditions applied fulfilled the requirements according to Section 31 (1) of the German Food and Feed Code (LFGB), as well as Article 3 of the (EC) Regulation No. 1935/2004. The tests relate to materials, such as housing, filter media, seals and surface coatings. The testing and fulfilment of these requirements follows the development progress of compressed air filters, which Donaldson consistently pursues. This includes the comparison of the performance data and the high filtration performance achieved at a minimal differential pressure. The compressed air filter series has already been validated according to the ISO 12500-1 and ISO 12500-3 standards for many years. Coalescing filter elements for the separation of oil aerosols can only be compared on the basis of this data. However, this market is not transparent, as compressed air filters are still being offered which have not been validated according to this standard. The development of the UltraPleat® filter medium in 2013 was a huge step towards lowering the differential pressure, which is crucial for reduction in the energy requirement, by up to an additional 50 %. Through the validation according to the ISO 12500-1 and ISO 12500-3 standards, the lowering of the differential pressure and finally the testing for fulfilment of the requirements according to Section 31 (1) of the German Food and Feed Code (LFGB), as well as Article 3 of the (EC) Regulation No. 1935/2004, Donaldson says its compressed air filters offer a technological edge, which especially benefits users in the food and beverage industry, who use compressed air which must meet the highest quality standards.
