US Patent for carbon treatment technology

Environmental products manufacturer US Microbics, Inc has been awarded a US Patent for its Bio-GAC and BAC bio-recycling technology for spent activated carbon filtration media.

The patent relates to the treatment of granular activated charcoal (GAC) filtration systems and concerns use of micro-organisms for removal of contaminating hydrocarbons including BTEX, MTBE, chlorinated solvents, and volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds from such systems. An important advantage of this patented method over traditional GAC treatment of water is that the system results in typical cost saving of up to 50%, and eliminates the need for carbon roasting facilities to recycle GAC or landfill expenses for disposal of GAC.

The patented system can be used for the treatment of water, wastewater, and impacted groundwater.
