New MBR has backwash capability
Weise Water Systems GmbH, a German manufacturer of plate and frame membrane modules for membrane bioreactor (MBR) applications, has recently launched a new module in its MicroClear range of submerged membranes with backwash capability.

In the past, plate and frame systems of hollow fibre MBR modules could not be backflushed, the company says. Now, with backflush and backwash capability it is much easier for MBR plant operators to keep the membranes clean and maintain plant performance.
Each MicroClear XL module cassette has 7 m2 of membrane area and its construction utilises patent pending welding technology as used in the manufacture of Weise's 3.5 m2 MC03 module, along with full surface distribution (FSD) technology, in which the trans-membrane pressure is uniform across the whole membrane surface. It incorporates ultrafiltration membranes rather than microfiltration ones which have a proven log 6 removal of virus.
