Investment finances disposable chroma system

Upfront Chromatography A/S has raised €6.8 million in investment funding which it plans to use in part to finance a programme to provide the world's first fully disposable chromatography system for biopharmaceutical production.

The investors in were DSM Venturing, the corporate venturing arm of Royal DSM NV, and existing investors InnovationsKapital and NBGI Ventures. Upfront will also use the proceeds of the financing to strengthen its sales force in North America.

Over the last decade, Upfront has developed a proprietary technology platform, Rhobust, that purifies biopharmaceuticals and functional proteins directly from complex media. Rhobust technology has been shown to be particularly suitable for bioprocessing, enabling efficient commercial-scale recovery and purification of monoclonal antibodies, therapeutic proteins and other biomolecules direct from blood plasma or bioreactors, the company says.
