Wilo EMU prefabricated pumping stations
A big problem facing standard pumping stations are the solids, such as wet tissues, that can block standard pumps. With the solid separations system in Wilo's EMUPORT pumping station, these damaging tissues will not be in contact with the pump but pumped out with the water in one piece.
Why is it innovative?
With this system, the incoming sewage enters the distribution reservoir and then flows into the respectively open solids separation reservoir. Here, the solids are held back by separating flaps and are filtered out. Only the thin sewage can now continue through the pump into the large joint collection reservoir. When the collection reservoir is being filled, the water level in the solids separation reservoir also rises. The shut-off ball automatically closes the inlet.
The pumping process is also ended in accordance with the level. The shut-off ball falls down and clears the way for a new filling process. The sewage is routed to the other solids separation reservoir during this pumping process. [Shortlisted for an innovation award].
X-flow - Seaguard
The Seaguard is a dedicated ultrafiltration membrane with specialised membrane chemistry and characteristics that produce RO feed water at a total cost of ownership that is said to be lower than existing technologies.
Why is it innovative?
X-Flow was reportedly one of the pioneers in ultrafiltration for potable water and waste water re-use applications to the water market. "The introduction of the Seaguard is an important step towards the standardisation on dual membrane treatment for the desalination of seawater," says Rick Rosberg, global director sales and marketing at X-Flow.
ZilvoldHF - membrane electrolysis
In many cases the use of chlorine is prescribed by law for the hygiene and safety of bathing establishments and swimming baths. To chlorinate swimming water, caustic chloric bleach is often used. It is, however, possible to produce pure chlorine locally in a safe and efficient way, from harmless salt, only when needed and only just the amount needed at that particular moment, by using membrane electrolysis. Because of the technique used, a very low consumption of chlorine and thus salt per swimmer is needed.
Why is it innovative?
This is a very precise and continuously variably controllable process, with complicated dosage possibilities and control assignments available. It means that less compounded chlorine is found in swimming water, and less chlorine vapour in the swimming pool area, improving the health of swimmers. 100% pure chlorine without undesirable decomposition products is produced, and there are no unused salts in the swimming water - not even indirectly.
