Liquid macrofiltration sales
to reach $5.5 billion
Sales of dewatering and process filter equipment and media will erach more than $5.5 billion in 2011, says McIlvaine in its online continually updated, Liquid Filtration and Media World Markets.
Liquid macrofiltration includes bag, drum, disc and sand (multimedia) filters and tubular and leaf filers, along with automatic back washing filters, filter presses, belt filter presses and vacuum belt filters - all of which are on the rise. One reason for this is the expansion of facilities to mine metals by the mininf industry, McIlvaine says. This industry is a big user of disc and drum filters as well as filter presses and will require more technology in the future Suppliers in Africa report activity levels at twice those of a year ago. As well as this, coal mining is also expanding to meet the huge growth of coal-fired electric power generation in China and elsewhere.
These same coal consuming power generators are also creating new demand for filtration equipment, particularly belt filters, to dewater gypsum, McIlvaine says.
Despite some competition from membrane filters, the granular media filters for purifying municipal water supplies segment is also growing robustly, McIlvaine says, with China being the main player.
