Advanced testing for engine air filters
Mann+Hummel has developed a new test system for car filters which has been successfully used at its air filter development plant in Ludwigsburg, Germany. The test system, called MFP-3000-S was developed by the company Palas® particularly for Mann+Hummel and with the company's input. The new test stand has been in continuous use since July 2005.
One requirement of the system was that the filter testing could be done gravimetrically, using weights. To do this, constant air conditions are necessary for comparable measurement results. The test stand had therefore to be modified from pressure to suction operation, the company says.
Up to now, a complete filter element had to be manufactured for the testing beforehand. That was not only complex and time-consuming, but also very expensive, the company says. "Now we do not need a complete filter any more - a piece of the filter medium is sufficient," Moser explains. "We push it into the new test stand and within short time we have the first results about the medium."
