Filter technology to fight bacteria
Fiberweb Filtration has launched the next generation of Reemay® filtration media utilising Microban® technology. Fiberweb Filtration claim that Reemay® Liberty® with Microban® antimicrobial protection is the most advanced filtration media available for inhibiting the growth of bacteria that can cause fouling and odour in pool and spa filter cartridges.
Reemay® Liberty® is constructed of continuous, bicomponent fibres. These fibres are engineered with an inner core for strength and an outer sheath that incorporates the active antimicrobial compound. Microban® technology is incorporated directly into the outer sheath of every single fibre during the manufacturing process, which ensures that any bacteria touching the filtration fabric will come into contact with Microban® technology. This construction eliminates any chance of foaming and ensures consistent performance of the Microban® technology throughout the life of the cartridge.
The media is constructed of trilobal spunbond fibres made of 100% polyester; there are no acrylics, binders or glue that can weaken and dissolve during use. This process produces a rigid fabric that readily holds sharp pleats providing column strength. The trilobal shape of the fibres maximises the filtration surface area, claim the manufacturers, and the continuous filament construction results in both cleanability and durability.
