Nanofibre filtration doubles product life
United Air Specialists (UAS), a subsidiary of Clarcor, has developed advanced nanofibre filtration technology for dust collection cartridge filters which reportedly allows the company's UAS cartridge filters to last twice as long as cellulose and 80/20 commodity filters.
This in turn cuts total dust collection costs by reducing the number of replacement filters needed, lowering maintenance cost and decreasing total energy use.
The company says that the longer filter life is due to the nanofibre's advanced surface loading capabilities. The technology includes a surface treatment of synthetic nanofibres which then form a nanoscopic mesh that traps dust particles on the filter's surface, where they easily release during the cleaning cycle and lower the pressure drop over the life of the filter.
Compared to other dust collection nanofibre technology, UAS nanofibres are about 50% finer, the compny says. They measure only 70-150 nm (.07-.15 µm), or about 1,000 times smaller than a human hair. The nanofibre filtration technology is also more durable, with better moisture and temperature resistance and stronger adhesion to the media substrate.
