GE's ZeeWeed 1000 membrane filter media
GE Water & Process Technologies' ZeeWeed 1000 membrane filter media offers a proactive solution to water scarcity and water quality issues. By providing a barrier against waterborne particles, bacteria, viruses and pathogens, the ZeeWeed 1000 protects communities' health. It is suitable for drinking water treatment, seawater pre-treatment for RO desalination, and tertiary filtration of secondary effluent.

Why is it innovative?
With an increased membrane surface area of up to 675 ft2 per module, the ZeeWeed 1000 allows plants to significantly cut capital costs by reducing associated equipment, such as pumps and valves.

Additionally, the ZeeWeed 1000's high tank intensity results in lower chemical costs, smaller tanks and pumps, and less frequent backwashing in high fouling waters. With an advanced membrane cleaning process, the ZeeWeed 1000 provides higher restoration of membrane permeability, which can improve performance and decreased energy requirements.

Pall - Ultipleat HP System
The Ultipleat HP System consists of an Ultipleat high flow profile cartridge in 8 inch GRP pressure vessels (20 inch, 40 inch and 60 inch long elements). Each Ultipleat HP system contains one perforated tube-sheet installed inside the pressure vessel, which contains one Ultipleat high flow element. It is designed for the pre-treatment of brackish water or seawater prior to reverse osmosis.

Why is it innovative?
Ultipleat utilises Pall's patented crescent shaped pleated cartridges, which provide an inside-to-out flow pattern. All trapped contaminants are kept inside the element during element replacement and do not contaminate the treated water. With the stack-on configuration of the Ultipleat HP system (similar to reverse osmosis installations), footprint can be minimised and element accessibility is maximised without a need for the platforms, decking and elaborate lifting devices often required on 'conventional' vessel configurations.

Pieralisi - Smart System
The Smart System is a sludge dewatering decanter centrifuge system.

Why is it innovative?

The Smart System is controlled by means of the fuzzy logical system with 8 input parameters that are required on the decanter. These parameters include dry solids influent, flow input, flow polymer input, dry solids output, flow output, G Force, differential speed and torque rotovariator input. A matrix of more than 800 000 different positions is used to search continously for the most optimal use of the decanter. Siemens - Memcor CP
The Memcor CP system is a pressurised, pre-engineered membrane system using hollow-fibre technology. It combines ultrafiltration membranes with a simple 'building block' design to produce high-quality water in numerous applications. The CP unit can produce up to 10 MGD (38 MLD) in one skid mounted, slab-on-grade unit, and its modular building block design can be arranged to meet any flow capacity down to 1 MGD (4 MLD) using interchangeable components and standard catalogue specifications.

Why is it innovative?
This latest advancement in hollow fibre membrane technology is an outside-in flow ultrafilter able to achieve 4-log Cryptosporidium and Giardia removal and 4-log virus retention. As a result, the new module helps municipalities meet stringent drinking water regulations and reduces the requirement for disinfection due to the high-log removal values.
