Spunbound substrate for pleated media
United Nonwovens, LLC has developed IsoPET, a new spunbond polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate which can be considered an alternative to polypropylene spunbond. Polyester is already the choice of many spunbond users due to its high melting point, printability and ability to pleat for filtration applications, and PET spunbond is much stronger than PP spunbond and can be sterilized if needed, the company says. It can also handle higher temperatures and is more flame retardant.

The substrates are essentially 100% square in MD/CD tensile strength and elongation and are reportedly closer to 1:1 than any commercial product sold today, offering strength and uniformity for carrier sheet applications. This ratio prevents the web from tearing during converting operations. It is available in most basis weight and width ranges up to 3.3 m (130 in).
